The Community Project Awards 2008 - putting children at the heart of the church

Over the past nine years, thanks to the support of Congregational & General Insurance plc, the URC Community Project Awards has given recognition to projects throughout the United Reformed Church. This years awards will be focusing on youth and children's work in the church.

Your project could win up to £3000. Up to four further prizes will be awarded to the runners-up, with a total prize fund of £9,000, generously donated by Congregational. A selection committee will choose up to five projects for judging.

The awards are open to all projects run by United Reformed Churches and local ecumenical projects where the URC is present.

The awards are intended as a form of recognition and are not intended to provide start-up finance.

The Guidelines

  • No more than one entry will be accepted for any one project.
  • To be eligible, a project must be run in the UK by the congregation of a United Reformed Church or by a local ecumenical project where the United Reformed Church is present.
  • Recipients of Community Project Awards from 2005 onwards are not eligible to enter the 2008 awards.
  • The awards are intended as a form of recognition and are not intended to provide start-up finance.
  • Entries must be received by Friday, 4th May 2008.
  • A selection committee will draw up a long list of entrants. These projects will receive a visit from a member of the selection committee, following which the committee will select up to five projects to go forward as the short list for final judging at the General Assembly.
  • The selection committees' decision is final and selected projects will be advised by week ending 23rd May 2008. The committee reserve the right to select less than five projects, if in their opinion, these guidelines are not met or entries are not of the required standard.
  • A short film about the work of the projects will be produced before the end of June 2008, to be shown at the Assembly as part of the final judging process. By applying all applicants must agree that they have sought the necessary approvals and consent in writing:
    • for filming taking place at their premises
    • from parents or guardians of any children likely to be featured in the films or any promotional material.
  • Entrants must agree to send up to 2 representative to attend the Award Ceremony, which will take place at a time to be announced during the General Assembly of the United Reformed Church to be held in Edinburgh, Friday, 11th July - Monday 14th July 2008.
  • As a condition of winning a major prize and must agree to any reasonable requests on the part of Congregational & General Insurance plc and/or Reform Magazine to participate in any promotional events connected with the competition such as interviews or photographs.
  • The awards will be presented as follows, First Prize £3,000, Second Prize £2,000, Third Prize £2,000, Fourth Prize £1,000, Fifth Prize £1,000. These prizes are the final amounts payable at each level notwithstanding that there may be less than five projects short listed for final judging.
