Congregational & General Charitable Trust

The aim of the Congregational & General Charitable Trust is to contribute to the funds of charitable causes and support protestant churches, in particular those of the United Reformed and Congregational denominations.

In 1994, the Trust became the owner of the Congregational Insurance Company and now regularly receives a proportion of profits to disperse to churches and various community causes. To date this is over £6 million.

For instance, £330,000 was given to the Charitable Trust in 2006 and this reflects the success and profitability of the company. A Council of Members are responsible for the administration and management of the Trust and all grants are made entirely on merit and are based on the criteria outlined below.

Trust Objectives

  • To contribute to the funds of any charitable institutions, associations, funds or objects and to carry out any charitable purpose.
  • To promote the Christian religion and, in particular, the United Reformed Church, Congregational Denominations and other churches (whether wholly independent or associated with or united with another church or group of churches) which are of the Protestant tradition.
