We understand that making a claim may be stressful and we are committed to making the claims experience as straightforward and easy as possible for you.

To make a claim on your policy, please report it to us as soon as reasonably possible. Contact your broker or intermediary in the first instance, alternatively notify the Congregational claims department using the details below.

Prior to submitting a claim

On the happening of any event which may give rise to a claim you must:

  1. tell us immediately and give us all the assistance we may reasonably require;
  2. inform the police within 48 hours if the damage is caused by thieves, malicious persons or vandals or by riot, civil commotion, strikes or labour disturbances;
  3. supply to us at your expense full details of the claim in writing including any supporting evidence and information that we require within the following periods:
    • 7 days for damage by riot, civil commotion, strikes, labour disturbances or malicious persons;
    • 30 days after the expiry of the indemnity period for claims under section 4 - loss of income;
    • 30 days after any other damage, injury or accident;
  4. take immediate action so far as is reasonably practical to minimise loss, recover lost property and prevent further damage, injury or accident;
  5. at our request and at our expense do or allow to be done everything reasonably required by us for the purpose of making recoveries from other parties whether such action is necessary before or after we pay your claim under the policy.

Claims checklist

  • Check your policy and schedule to see if you are covered and make yourself aware of any limits or exclusions that may apply. Your schedule will have been provided when you took out or renewed your policy.
  • Once a claim is reported to us, we may appoint a loss adjuster or a specialist supplier to assist with your claim. If we appoint a specialist supplier or loss adjuster, they will contact you within 24 hours to progress your claim.
  • A claim excess may be deducted from any claim payment, details of any excess amount can be found in your schedule.
  • Please do not dispose of any damaged property without prior referral to us, as it may be necessary for it to be inspected.

  • Take all reasonable steps to minimise further damage - if emergency temporary repairs are necessary to protect your property or prevent further damage, please proceed as soon as possible and submit the appropriate invoices. Please note these costs will only be paid if you have a valid claim.
  • If you have items stolen, suffered damage caused by thieves or vandals, you must notify the police within 48 hours and obtain a crime reference number.
